Sandy's Quilters October Retreat

Sandy's Quilters, eight lovely ladies from Canberra, were at Russellee for a quilting retreat on the weekend. It never ceases to amaze how much can be achieved on a two day retreat. The group worked on their own projects. Some were new and some were UFOs. A lot of larger quilt tops were achieved as well as some smaller projects

UFO Quilting Retreat

Last weekend Russellee BnB Craft Retreats hosted a UFO Quilting Retreat.  Nine lovely ladies travelled to Tumut from Sydney, Braidwood, Queanbeyan and Canberra for this retreat.
Most of these ladies had not met before the retreat and new friendships were made over the weekend.  Quilt tops were completed and lots of ideas were shared.
Tony again did a wonderful job of providing food for the ladies.  It never ceases to amaze me the beautiful meals that he presents to the ladies.
A couple of the ladies had to leave on the Sunday afternoon but the rest stayed an extra night to enjoy a wonderful Quilting Party presented by Maru Soto of Material Girls Down Under.  Maru had a great range of gadgets, fabrics, and books for the ladies to purchase.  Maru  also made the morning special with games with quilting themes and demonstrations of gadgets and quilt blocks.
Local ladies from Batlow and Tumut also came to the 'Quilting Party'.  A highlight of the morning was a show and tell.
Geraldine Fleming from Batlow showed her wonderful NZ themed quilt.  Geraldine made the centre panels of the quilt in Amanda Daleys workshop on our 2ns Australian Quilting Cruise.  Well done Geraldine.

News from Russellee

The past five weeks have been full on for Russellee BnB Craft Retreats.  Our first quilting retreat for the year was our 4th Australian Quilting and Embroidery Cruise.  This left Sydney on the 22nd February for 11 nights around the north island of New Zealand.  Teachers were Helen Godden, Jan Pilgrim, Chris Dowell and myself.  We had 34 wonderful ladies attend.  Several of these ladies were making their second and even third cruise with us.

The week after returning home I had 11 scrapbookers for my first Scrappin’ Retreat for the year.  We had a new comer this time in that we had a male scapper come.  His work was superb.

I was invited to the South Coast Quilters 25th Anniversary Luncheon last Monday as the quest speaker.  I was very impressed with the standard of this event and can not praise the organisers highly enough for there presentation on the day.

Last weekend saw the return on Sandy’s Quilters from Canberra.  This group started coming about 7 years ago and are now doing two retreats at Russellee a year.  Thank you Sandy for your group’s wonderful patronage.

Planning is well on the way for our Bali/Lombok Quilting Retreat Fabric and Cultural Tour.  This is filling fast.  We take a maximum of 10 on this trip and do the trip once a year.  I have posted our itinerary.  This trip is great value at $1749 per person land content.  This includes twin share accommodation, all breakfasts, all lunches, for dinners and entry into places on the itinerary as well as the use of a sewing machine.

Our 5th Australian Quilting Cruise is well into planning also.  The cruise will leave Sydney on the 14th February 2016. I hope to have all the class information up very soon.

Don’t forget Russellee can organise private craft retreats for up to 10 ladies most times of the year.  Just contact me for details at russeldr@bigpond.com

Russellee BnB Craft Retreats is putting together their annual Quilting Retreat, Fabric and Cultural Tour to Bail. This year we are going earlier and the dates are 26th July - 8th August. We take a maximum of 10 ladies which is a nice size ...group. Every one gets to know each other and wonderful friendships develop.

The first week we fabric shop till we drop. The fabrics are amazing. Beautiful Batiks are $2.50 per mtr and jelly rolls are around $15. We also have a go of creating our own piece of Batik fabric. This has been very popular of our previous trips as it give you an appreciation of the beautiful Batik fabrics and to bring home something special.

This year we are trying something different. The second week, our sewing week, is going to be in Lombok. We have a lovely resort booked and Lombok offers some different sight seeing. We provide sewing machines. They are basic Singers but they certainly do the job.

Albury Quilters Come for a Retreat

Vicki’s Quilters from Albury held their annual retreat at Russellee BnB again this weekend.  Their chosen workshop for this retreat was a ‘Landscape Quilt’.  The retreat started with a show and tell of two of the quilts from their last retreat here.  The class was ‘Butterfly Trails’.  This is the workshop that I will be doing on our 4th Australian Quilting and Embroidery Cruise next February.

The ladies started by designing their landscape on paper and then auditioning fabrics.  Swapping of fabrics ensured that the right fabric for the landscapes were available. The weekend saw landscapes evolving before our eyes.  Most got to the quilting stage.  Here are a few of the end results read for the next stage.

Thread Painted Pups

The New Year is well and truly upon us.  We had a lovely Christmas at Russellee. Since we have came back from our Bali Quilting Retreat I have been busy preparing for our upcoming Quilting Cruise on the 27th February.  Kits are being put together and classes finalised.  Laraine has put together a Mystery Class for the cruise and we have sourced all that is needed for this class.

I have managed to update Russellee’s Retreat Calendar for 2014.  We are having a workshop with Helen Godden on the 17 – 18th March.  This is a Monday and Tuesday and accommodation is available.  Contact me if you are interested in coming to Helen's wonderful class.

Thread Painting.  I love thread painting.  I used to do a lot of it 20 – 25 years ago.  Quilting and Scrapbooking have put it into the background for several years. However, after doing one of my dogs at the Craft Alive’s and Henty Field days last year and one for the NSW Quilters Guild challenge I have decided to concentrate on it again and have been doing some dogs for a couple of relatives.

Here are a couple.

Until next time.

Bail Quilting Retreat

Join us on an exciting 14 day fully escorted Quilting, Fabric and Cultural Retreat Bali 15 - 28 October 2013

On arrival in Bali we will be met by or Bali Friend, John, an expat from Canberra.  John will look after and guide us for the next two weeks.

Our first week is about batiks with exclusive visits to shops crammed with material and also to factories to see how they are produced.  We will visit the Bali Safari & Marine park where you will enjoy a full lunch and have the opportunity to get up personal with an orang-utan.  Be truly amazed by the spectacular Bail Agung theatre show.  Not to be missed.

We will then travel, via our own mini bus and dedicated driver, to the tranquil seaside hotel at Candi Dassa.  Candi Dassa will be our sea side home for the remainder of our retreat.  We will have plenty of opportunity to sew our wonderful batik purchases.  Many project ideas will be available or bring your own patterns.

There will be plenty of time sew or to just relax at this magical place.  We have brand new basic Singer Sewing Machines and an airconditioned workroom.

A visit to the ancient village of Tenganan gives an insight into the Balinese culture and also the Ujung Water palace.  A highlight of Candi Dassa is a fish and turtle viewing morning via an outrigger canoe, with an option for snorkelling.
We finish our trip at Jimbaran Beach with a farewell dinner while watching the sun set.  Then sadly we will be taken to the airport by our driver for the return flight to Australia.

Come and join us on this magical Retreat.  You do not have to be a quilter to come. For more information contact me at russeldr@bigpond.com
