Bali Quilting Retreat, Fabric and Cultural Tour

The 2016 Bali Quilting Retreat - Fabric and Cultural Tour has been a great success.  Ten wonderful ladies from three Australian states attended and all had a great time.  Mini spending sprees were common at the fabric shops in Denpasar.

Two inspirational batik workshops were organised the first using the Tjanting drawing tool method for hot wax.  Chris Dowell, a talented quilter and artist, helped the ladies with their designs.  Chris, with valued help from staff at the venue, then helped everyone create their own masterpiece.  All were thrilled with the results. The second used stamps and the hot wax.
Our inclusive retreats also encourages participants to learn about and experience the culture of Bali and meet local people also enjoy local food and the landscapes.

The highlight of the trip, for quilters, is the accommodation at beautiful Candidassa  in the Ashyana Resort where they have the opportunity to sew with our machines. The staff at Ashyana resort look after us wonderfully and an air-conditioned sewing room is provided. Ashyana is on the beach and has breathtaking views of the ocean. A Mystery Workshop is included and the results this year were very well received.

Next year (2017) the retreat will be from 28th August – 10th September and is filling fast.  If you would like information on this retreat please contact me.

Comments on this year’s retreat from some of the participants.
Bali was just beautiful and the sightseeing inspirational.
I enjoyed the block of quilting time, as I never seem to be able to spend that much time quilting all at once, at home!!

I am very proud of my achievements and it is thanks to your encouragement and teaching.
It was so good to see all those bali fabrics in the shops in Denpasar -even though I felt like a deer in the headlights with so much choice.

I have laid out my purchases and planned at least 5 more projects with them. When they eventuate will be another story!!
I’m back to my busy days and feel re-energised after my 2 weeks of being pampered.
Deb
Thank you again to Dorothy, Chris, John and Eddy. All a complete package that complemented each other's talents perfectly. What a wonderful crafty break that exploded with inspiration from the first day in the fabric shop, through the cultural experiences, culinary pleasures and creative inspiration from our tropical Bali paradise retreat! Loved every minute of it. Thank you all for playing with me over the past 2 weeks! XXX Delwyn
Dorothy, it was our pleasure to be on this tour. I am sure I can speak for us all to say that we appreciated the honour of going to Eddy's home for dinner and seeing the Monkey dance, also to go to the village and see Sari's shop and have lunch at her house. The contact with the local people makes a joy of the trip.
John's stories and history lessons were wonderful; he has great presentation and content.

Successful Retreat

Following the success of our 5 day Quilting Cruise without the Boat we have been asked to run it again next February. Both Juanita Bugee and Chris Dowell have agreed to attend again.

Juanita will be offering two 2 day Judy Niemeyer workshops.
Chris will be offering workshops in designing your own quilt using printed panels as the starting point. Maureen's lovely quilt from this workshop is shown here. I will be offering workshops on landscape quilts. Designing you own or ...using one of my patterns.

On the Wednesday we will be doing a morning trip to Tumbarumba visiting the Pioneer Women's Hut to view the antique quilts followed by lunch. In the afternoon Chris will be holding her Mystery Workshop. This proved very popular this year.

We keep our groups small. Russellee BnB has accommodation and it is on a first in first receive basis. There is alternate accommodation with in a 5 minute drive. Our overall numbers are also limited and we have 6 ladies booked so far. if you are interested in coming please let me know. Final dates, workshop details and pricing will be released shortly.

This weekend is a Scrapping Weekend.  A lovely group of regular ladies will be attending.  Air cons are working well so they will keep cool.

I have two spots left on our Bail Quilting, Fabric and Cultural Tour starting the 5th of September.  Please contact me if you are interested.

Until next time.

Where did 2015 go -- Welcome 2016.

2015 was a very busy year for Russellee BnB both from the BnB side and the Craft Retreat side.  We had the largest number of people staying at the BnB during the year than we ever had in any of the past 13 years we have been operating.  We also had 10 groups of crafters, (card makers, quilters and scrap bookers) as well as our Quilting Cruise in February and Bali Quilting Retreat in July/August.

2016 is shaping up to be another busy year.  To-date we have 10 groups booked in with many as repeat bookings and new ones as well.  Unfortunately our 2016 Quilting Cruise was cancelled due to the Australian $ exchange rate with US $.  However, Russellee is having a five day ‘Quilting Cruise without the Boat’ in place of the cruise in February. The teachers and classes are the same as offered on the Cruise.  This retreat has filled very quickly; however, a couple of vacancies in some of the classes exist, with accommodation available in Tumut. Class information can be seen below.

Our Bali Quilting Retreat in September is almost full with only two spots available.  This two week retreat allows for the making of a personal batik fabric, time for sewing, the opportunity to see the culture of Bail and not to mention the fabrics.  Contact me if you are interested in sharing in this wonderful Quilting Retreat.

The BnB is also filling up with Easter fully booked.

Tony and I would like to thank all of those who supported us during 2015 with both the BnB and the Craft Retreats.  We look forward to catching up again in 2016.

News from Russellee

The past five weeks have been full on for Russellee BnB Craft Retreats.  Our first quilting retreat for the year was our 4th Australian Quilting and Embroidery Cruise.  This left Sydney on the 22nd February for 11 nights around the north island of New Zealand.  Teachers were Helen Godden, Jan Pilgrim, Chris Dowell and myself.  We had 34 wonderful ladies attend.  Several of these ladies were making their second and even third cruise with us.

The week after returning home I had 11 scrapbookers for my first Scrappin’ Retreat for the year.  We had a new comer this time in that we had a male scapper come.  His work was superb.

I was invited to the South Coast Quilters 25th Anniversary Luncheon last Monday as the quest speaker.  I was very impressed with the standard of this event and can not praise the organisers highly enough for there presentation on the day.

Last weekend saw the return on Sandy’s Quilters from Canberra.  This group started coming about 7 years ago and are now doing two retreats at Russellee a year.  Thank you Sandy for your group’s wonderful patronage.

Planning is well on the way for our Bali/Lombok Quilting Retreat Fabric and Cultural Tour.  This is filling fast.  We take a maximum of 10 on this trip and do the trip once a year.  I have posted our itinerary.  This trip is great value at $1749 per person land content.  This includes twin share accommodation, all breakfasts, all lunches, for dinners and entry into places on the itinerary as well as the use of a sewing machine.

Our 5th Australian Quilting Cruise is well into planning also.  The cruise will leave Sydney on the 14th February 2016. I hope to have all the class information up very soon.

Don’t forget Russellee can organise private craft retreats for up to 10 ladies most times of the year.  Just contact me for details at russeldr@bigpond.com

Russellee BnB Craft Retreats is putting together their annual Quilting Retreat, Fabric and Cultural Tour to Bail. This year we are going earlier and the dates are 26th July - 8th August. We take a maximum of 10 ladies which is a nice size ...group. Every one gets to know each other and wonderful friendships develop.

The first week we fabric shop till we drop. The fabrics are amazing. Beautiful Batiks are $2.50 per mtr and jelly rolls are around $15. We also have a go of creating our own piece of Batik fabric. This has been very popular of our previous trips as it give you an appreciation of the beautiful Batik fabrics and to bring home something special.

This year we are trying something different. The second week, our sewing week, is going to be in Lombok. We have a lovely resort booked and Lombok offers some different sight seeing. We provide sewing machines. They are basic Singers but they certainly do the job.
