Sandy's Quilters, eight lovely ladies from Canberra, were at Russellee for a quilting retreat on the weekend. It never ceases to amaze how much can be achieved on a two day retreat. The group worked on their own projects. Some were new and some were UFOs. A lot of larger quilt tops were achieved as well as some smaller projects

Mosaic Workshop finished

After four great days of sewing, two of which included the workshop on mosaic pictures with Robyn Taylor. the Sydney Quilters left this morning braving the cold to catch the rail bus to Coota and then the train back to Sydney. The Retreat was a great success. Robyn's class went down very well. We will hold another 'Mosaic' class here later in the year if we get enough interest. Below are some of the results of the class.

Russellee's next retreat is a 'Thread Painting' workshop on the 17th and 18th May. Tumut is lovely at the moment with the Autumn colours in the trees give beautiful displays.  These trees are providing lots of inspiration for 'Thread Painting'.  On my way home from taking the Sydney ladies to the train I snapped these pictures.

Bail Quilting Retreat

Join us on an exciting 14 day fully escorted Quilting, Fabric and Cultural Retreat Bali 15 - 28 October 2013

On arrival in Bali we will be met by or Bali Friend, John, an expat from Canberra.  John will look after and guide us for the next two weeks.

Our first week is about batiks with exclusive visits to shops crammed with material and also to factories to see how they are produced.  We will visit the Bali Safari & Marine park where you will enjoy a full lunch and have the opportunity to get up personal with an orang-utan.  Be truly amazed by the spectacular Bail Agung theatre show.  Not to be missed.

We will then travel, via our own mini bus and dedicated driver, to the tranquil seaside hotel at Candi Dassa.  Candi Dassa will be our sea side home for the remainder of our retreat.  We will have plenty of opportunity to sew our wonderful batik purchases.  Many project ideas will be available or bring your own patterns.

There will be plenty of time sew or to just relax at this magical place.  We have brand new basic Singer Sewing Machines and an airconditioned workroom.

A visit to the ancient village of Tenganan gives an insight into the Balinese culture and also the Ujung Water palace.  A highlight of Candi Dassa is a fish and turtle viewing morning via an outrigger canoe, with an option for snorkelling.
We finish our trip at Jimbaran Beach with a farewell dinner while watching the sun set.  Then sadly we will be taken to the airport by our driver for the return flight to Australia.

Come and join us on this magical Retreat.  You do not have to be a quilter to come. For more information contact me at russeldr@bigpond.com

Australian Quilting Cruise Update

Keeping Warm
Here we are six months out from our next Australian Quilting Cruise.  It is almost snowing here.  In fact one of the ladies coming on the cruise was speaking to me at lunch time and it was snowing where she is at Kanama, near Batlow.  Just thinking about curising to the Pacific and being able to quilt on the way is waming me up.  My animals have taken position by the fire.  They are not venturing too far from the house.

We have to date 15 quilting ladies plus some partners and friends booked on the curise.  We have a lot of publicity going out over the next couple of months so if you would like to come or would like more information please contact me.

I have been busy in my sewing room putting together quilts to show for my two classes.  I have managed to finish quilting one of them.  Seven to go.  Have done (or will do) four variations on each of my classes.  You know quilting rooms are very hard to keep tidy.  I seem to have fabrics everywhere.

Amanda has posted some of her samples on her blog.  Hop over there and have a look. http://amandaspatch.blogspot.com.au/

I am still waiting on the batics to arrive for one of my workshops.  Will post the finished quilt when I have it completed'

With the school holidays upon us and snow not far away we have a lot of bookings.  Just after the holidays I have 7 ladies from Albury coming for a retreat so we will be very busy over then next few weeks.  Still hope to fit in the patchwork.  Seem to be sewing later at night.

Will keep you posted on the quilting progress over the next few weeks.

Until next time

Dorothy
