Scrapbooking Retreat

Last weekend saw a small Scrapbooking Retreat at Russellee.  I had five lovely ladies attend.  One was very new to Scrapbooking and took to it like a duck to water.  I think that she is now addicted to this wonderful craft.

We don't mind having small groups coming to Russellee  It give us the opportunity to really get to know everyone and have more time to help if needed.

July is going to be busy with attending Craft Alive at Wodonga to promote the retreats at Russellee as well as our Quilting Cruise next February.  The day after Wodonga Tony and I will be heading off to New Zealand to attend the Taupo Smposium 2013 Fabric Art Festival.  I have been looking forward to this event for over 12 months.  I will be taking part in three workshops with tutors for the US and New Zealand.  One can never stop learning and this Symposium is a great opportunity to see what ladies from all over the world are creating.  I will post a report when we get back.

Until next time.

Retreats Past and Future

Last weekend Sandy's quilters from Canberra came for their fourth visit.  There were seven wonderful ladies and they worked on their projects.  Over the course of the weekend some wonderful quilt tops were produced.  They varied greatly in technique and colour.  I have a photo of one of the quilt tops finished.  This braid quilt was made from batks that were purchased in Bali last September on the 'Bali Treasures' trip that Sandy orgainsed.  Pam and her sister travelled down from Brisbane for the retreat.

I have also been working on a quilt made with a jelly roll that I got in Bail on that trip.  The colours are different to what I usually work with.  It has been interesting using such bright colours.  I am going to applique hibiscus and butterflies on it.

On a different note I have a Scrapbooking group next weekend.  This is one of my groups.  All these ladies have been before and the group is a great one.  I have been asked if I could organise an extra Scrapbooking Retreat for the 21st - 23rd June.  This is open to all.  If you would like details please contact me.

The 5th - 7th April is a UFO Quilting weekend.  There are still some places available for this retreat.  If you would like to come no matter what your experience or if you come alone you are always welcome.

Dont' forget that we can orgainise a retreat for your group either for a weekend or during the week.

Retreat Update

It has been a busy month at Russellee.  We had a wonderful three day retreat with five ladies coming from Melbourne, four from the Southern Highlands, two from Canberra and one wonderful local lady Ros who was a great help over the weekend.  This retreat was a combination of UFO's and learning the Snake Trail (Snake in a Hollow) block.  The results were very interesting.

Another UFO quilt top finished.  Now for the quilting!!!

The Retreat was very relaxing considering some of the hassels that happened over the weekend due to unforseen circumstances. (Our cook was ill and could not come.)  However all problems were overcome and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Time out with a 'Local"
Some of the ladies visited the Adelong Patchwork Shop on the Saturday. Not to mention a visit to a local shoe shop which resulted in a shoe parade on Sunday evening. The Melbourne ladies stayed an extra night. Ros acted as a tour guide and took them around Tumut and to Adelong where they visited the Adelong Patchwork Shop.  The shop does not open on Mondays as a rule but Ros spotted Chrissie in her garden and hailed her over. Ros is not one to let an opportunity go by.  A great time was then had in the shop.

My next quilting retreat at Russellee will be 26th - 28th April next year.  If you are interested in this please send me an email.

Our Quilting Retreat at Sea next January is fully booked.  We have 34 wonderful ladies coming.  Amanda Daley and I are looking forward to meeting them all.

Scrapbooking Cruise

Pam and I are back on dry land after the 2nd Annual Scrapbook Cruise 6th - 13th January 2011. This was a 7 night Tasmania Cruise on the Royal Caribbean Rhapsody of the Seas.
Lorelle and Rob Hardt for Crafting Cruises again hosted a great Scrapping Cruise.

Our wonderful teacher, Melissa Kennedy from KasierCraft, again gave us great classes. We actually completed seven layouts and a couple of cards with her. Considering that we only had two and a half days at sea Melissa did very well.

In all about 36 ladies and 22 extra family members were in the group. They came from all over the country from Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales. I have included a group photo of the ladies however some in the back are a bit hard to see. Not sure how to overcome this with so many.

Lorelle and Rob had their beautiful baby daughter, Cassandra, with them. They also had a lot of baby sitters with sisters and cousins. Unfortunately Lorelle's mum had a mishap at the start of the cruise and had to go into hospital in Melbourne.
The floods in Queensland played havoc on the group a bit with one lady from Rockhampton unable to attend due to the floods and some of the Brisbane ladies having difficulty in getting home. Not to mention anxious times with text messages from loved ones in Ipswitch and Toowamba. However, all are safe even though houses were affected.

Raewyn Gilchrist from Wagga (there were 15 in her party although not all Scrappers) gave a bonus class. I would like to thank Raewyn for all the effort she put into getting this class ready. Although my layout is not completed some of the ladies did some lovely layouts using Raewyn's kits.

Melissa's layouts had lovely papers from the Prima Annabella rang, the Kasier Seaside range and American Crafts Enchanted range. Thank you Melissa for put together great kits. Melissa also gave a prize for the lady who completed the most layouts. One lady did 50 odd layouts during the cruise. Even though we only had 2½ days at sea we had access to the Scrapbooking room at all times which was great.

Pam was lucky enough to win one of the luck draws. The prize was a signed Tim Holtz's A Compendium of Curriosities book. Great techniques in it.
I would recommend a Scrapping Cruise to all those who are addicted to the craft. I have put a link into Lorelle's email for those who are interested in the 3rd Annual Australian Scrapbooking Cruise.
Until next time
Happy Scrapping
